The Western Australian capital city of Perth has been named Australia's most livable city, while the state's largest town, Bunbury, came second. The study, conducted by real estate group Domain Group, ranked the cities based on factors including population growth, quality of living, transport infrastructure, education and health services, culture and environment, crime rates and unemployment levels.
Perth had an estimated population of 1.5 million at the end of 2011, making it the fifth-largest city in Australia. It is located on the Swan River and surrounded by beautiful beaches and parks. The city centre is home to many major attractions such as Kings Park, Fremantle Markets, the State Theatre and the Art Gallery of WA. There are also numerous museums, galleries and theatres within easy reach. In addition, there are plenty of cafes, restaurants and bars where visitors can relax after a day out sightseeing.
Bunbury, situated just south of Perth, has a population of around 100,000. It is known as the gateway to the South West region of Western Australia, offering travellers access to some of the best surf spots in the country. The town is also close to popular tourist destinations like Margaret River wine region and Ningaloo Reef Marine Park.
