When you arrive in Bilbao, make sure that you check into your accommodation before heading out onto the streets. It might seem like a good idea to go straight out and explore the city, but if you don't have anywhere to sleep, then you could end up spending the night wandering the streets. Make sure that you have somewhere safe to store your luggage while you are exploring the city, as well as somewhere to wash yourself, and maybe even shower. These things aren't really necessary, but they will save you time later on, especially if you plan on doing any sightseeing during the day.
After checking into your accommodation, head over to the main square in Bilbao, called Plaza de Zorroza. Here you will find plenty of bars and restaurants, and also shops selling souvenirs. Once you have had enough of shopping, head back towards your accommodation and grab something to eat. After eating, head back to the main square and take a look at what else is happening.
