Sri Lanka Rent Motorbike
The best way to get around Sri Lanka is to hire a motorbike. It is very cheap, easy to use and fun to ride. The roads are generally good but not perfect. There are many places where you need to take care. If you have never ridden a bike before don't worry about how to handle one. All you need to do is follow the instructions provided by the driver. Most drivers speak English although some only understand Sinhalese. If you don't speak any language at all ask someone to translate for you. Make sure you agree on a price before starting the journey. Some people like to bargain and others prefer to pay what they think is fair. Once you arrive at your destination make sure you return the bike safely. Don't leave it anywhere near a busy road or place where thieves might find it. Be careful when riding through towns because traffic can be heavy and accidents common. Riding in the countryside is much safer than in cities. In the mountains expect to encounter lots of rocks and steep inclines. Take extra care when driving over these obstacles. Do not drink alcohol while riding. Drinking makes you careless and reckless. Driving under the influence of alcohol is illegal in Sri Lanka.
Renting a car in Sri Lanka is expensive compared to renting a motorbike. A typical 4-seater mini van costs between $30-$40 per day depending on the season. For longer trips consider renting a larger van. Mini vans are usually used for short trips within the same town. They are not suitable for long distance travel.
