Alanya is one of Turkey’s largest cities and its port is located at the northern end of the Gulf of Antalya. It lies on the Mediterranean coast and is situated between two mountains; Mount Taurus and Mount Kas. The climate here is very hot during summer months but milder than some other parts of Turkey. The best time to visit Alanya is from April to October. If you plan to travel to Alanya during these times make sure to book your accommodation well in advance. During winter months the temperature drops considerably and many tourists prefer to stay away from the area. There are several things to do in Alanya including visiting the old town where you can find numerous restaurants serving local cuisine. The beaches around Alanya offer excellent opportunities for sunbathing and swimming. Most hotels have their own private beach areas. A few kilometres outside Alanya is the ancient Greek site of Aphrodisias.
