Quito Motorcycle Rental
The best way to get around Quito is by motorbike. It’s cheap, fun and easy to use. If you have never ridden one before, here are some tips:
- Don't wear tight clothes. The bike is designed to handle bumps, not to go over speed bumps.
- Keep your hands at 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock positions on the handlebars.
- Wear comfortable shoes. They should fit snugly but comfortably.
You can hire a scooter (motorized tricycle) for about $3 per hour or a regular bicycle for about $2 per hour. A taxi ride costs about $5-6 per kilometer. For short trips, like between two points within walking distance, a moped (scooter without pedals) is ideal. These start at about $4 per hour. For longer rides, consider renting a car.
To find a place to rent bikes, look for signs advertising "Bicicletería" ("bicycle shop"). Most places offer rentals starting at $0.50 per hour. There are also many private companies offering similar services.
