Auckland is New Zealand’s largest city and capital. It lies along the eastern coast of the North Island, between 40°00' and 45°00' south latitude and 174°30' and 175°20' east longitude. The city covers an area of approximately 746 square kilometres (290 sq mi) and had a population of 1,904,000 people in 2016. Auckland City is located within the Auckland Region, which is part of the wider metropolitan region of Auckland.[2][3] Auckland is the only place in New Zealand where English is not the official language. However, the majority of its residents speak English as their first language, and many also speak Te Reo Māori.
There are several reasons why Auckland is a popular destination for travellers visiting New Zealand. One reason is because of its natural beauty. Another reason is due to its central position, being situated close to both the north and south islands. Auckland is home to two international airports; Auckland International Airport and Manukau International Airport. These two airports make it easy for tourists to travel around the world without having to fly through another airport. There are also plenty of things to do in Auckland. For instance, visitors can go shopping at Queen Street Mall, visit museums like Museum of Transport and Technology, or take a tour of downtown Auckland.
