Graaff Reinet is one of South Africa’s oldest townships. It was founded in 1875 by the Dutch East India Company. The name “Reinet” is derived from the Afrikaans word ‘rijnestraat’ meaning river street. Today, Graaff Reinet is home to approximately 50 000 people.
There are many things to do in Graaff Reinet. One of them is to go to the beach. There are several beaches around town. They are not very big but they are nice enough. Some of them have beautiful sand dunes and others don't. There are some restaurants along the coast where you can eat good food. Also, there are plenty of places to shop. In fact, there are shops everywhere. There are supermarkets, hardware stores, clothing stores, shoe stores, toy stores, bookstores, etc. There are even grocery stores. Most of these stores sell clothes, shoes, toys, books, groceries, electronics, appliances, etc. There are also pharmacies, hair salons, nail salons, beauty parlors, etc.
