Pop Motorcycle Rental Chiang Mai
The best way to get around Chiang Mai is by using motorbikes. They are cheap, easy to hire and fun to ride. There are two main types of bike to rent:
- A "pop" style scooter (also known as a Vespa)
- A full size motorcycle.
Both styles have their pros and cons. The pop bikes are great for short distances but not very stable, they don't go fast enough to cover long distances and they are hard work to drive at speed. Full sized bikes are much faster than pops, but they are harder to manoeuvre and require more skill to drive. Both types are ideal for getting around town and visiting temples, markets and tourist attractions. If you are looking for something different try renting a moped, these are smaller than both pops and full sized bikes and are easier to handle.
You can find them everywhere, including many street stalls and small shops along side roads and near bus stops. Most places offer a choice between a day rate and hourly rate. Prices vary depending on where you are staying, how far away you are from the centre and what time of year you visit. Expect to pay about $5 per hour for a full sized bike and about $2 per hour for a pop. Mopeds are usually cheaper, starting at around $3 per hour. Remember that you need to leave ID and passport as security deposit before you start riding.
