The Harley Davidson company was founded in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1903. It is one of the oldest American motorcycle manufacturers still operating today. The first Harley-Davidson model was released in 1914. In the following years, they produced their first models with V-twin engines. They were followed by the introduction of single cylinder bikes in 1925. After World War II, the company began producing larger displacement twin cylinder engines. Today, Harley-Davidson produces over 500 different types of motorcycles worldwide. Their products include touring bikes, cruisers, sportbikes, custom choppers, and streetfighters. The brand name "Harley" is derived from the initials of its founder William A. Davidson.
Today, Harley-Davidson offers three basic categories: cruiser, touring, and sporty. Each category includes various models. For instance, the Touring line consists of Softail, Fat Boy, Dyna, FXR, Sportster, Road King, Heritage Classic, Street Glide, Low Rider, FLSTF, XR1200, XLCH, and Electra Glide Ultra Classic. All these models have distinctive features. Some of them come with leather seats, while others offer optional accessories like luggage racks, GPS systems, and even heated grips. There are many other differences between each bike, but the main difference is the engine size. Most of the models have a 649cc engine, although some have smaller engines (e.g., the Softail models).
