1. Flexibility. Campervans are undoubtedly one of the most flexible ways to get around. What other mode of transport also serves as your home, a place you can cook and even a toilet? With a campervan, you have everything you need all in one place. Moreover, if you get bored of a place, or decide to stay longer, then a campervan is your best friend, as you are no longer tied into a stuffy hotel schedules and can come and go as you please in your vehicle.
2. Cost. Campervan holidays are not the cheapest of pursuits, we admit, but you need to compare it to all the other costs of a holiday. When you take a normal trip, you would usually have to pay for hotels, restaurants and perhaps a hire car. Well, with a campervan, all that is of course included. Therefore, when you add up the cost (and hassle) of all these other expenses, campervans don’t usually come out any worse, and are can often be cheaper all in all.
3. Friends. Campervan trips are one of the best ways to make friends, mainly because of the places you stay. Camp sites often have fabulous social scenes, with lots of evening entertainment and plenty of chances to meet new people. For example, camp sites will regularly have pubs on site, as well as pools, evening games, sometimes arcades and so on. What’s more, your campervan will be a talking point to others who also travel this way, giving you something to strike up a conversation over.
4. Nature. Visiting the countryside in a campervan is one of the best ways to really get into nature. When you drive, or take a tour bus or public transport, one night falls you are usually back in your home or hotel, however with a campervan you can often spend the night in the place you are exploring and then wake up to beautiful views in the morning. Even in places where wild camping is not allowed, there will be campsites nearby for you to park up in.
5. Comfort. Modern campervans are incredibly comfortable and spacious machines. Unlike people staying in a tent, you get air conditioning, fridges, heating, toilets and showers – often better conditions than you would get in a hotel actually, and you certainly have more control over the temperature! You also have powerful integrated speakers, lights for the evening and fairly comfy beds. The days of campervans being small, cramped and cold are long gone (unless you like that, as classic vehicles are still available!).
6. That cozy feeling. There’s no better way to wake up in nature than within a campervan. When you’re in a tent, it’s a mad panic to exit the tent before it gets too hot, but in a cozy campervan with temperature control, you can have a leisurely morning waking up and making a coffee etc. Moreover, when the sound of rain thrumming on the glass and steel whilst you doze off warm and dry cannot be beaten, in marked comparison to campers who are wondering if their tent is about to spring a leak!
7. Winter trips. Don’t assume that campervan trips are only for the summer, if you planning to visit a country that has well defined seasons. Whilst it is true that summer is undoubtedly our most popular season, you shouldn’t write off exploring in the winter. The winter season is almost certainly cheaper, and what’s more you will find that many of the sites you stay at will be far more empty of tourists. Moreover, winter holds its own appeal in terms of the natural beauty of the area you are visiting, and offers a perspective and a view that is far more rarely seen by visitors.
8. Classic Campervans. Come on, this one is on everyone’s bucket list! Zooming off into the sunset in a cool and characterful VW Campervan has to be one of the best and most iconic things to do. 9. Try before you buy. A lot of people who hire campervans from us are interested in seeing if they enjoy a campervan holiday before they fully commit to owning a campervan. This is a very valid reason to hire, as buying a campervan (especially brand new) does not come cheap. Make sure that your campervan dream is as much fun in reality, preferably by hiring for a few weeks and even over a couple of seasons (summer and autumn for example) before you shell out on what could be an extremely expensive purchase, second only to a house for most people.
10. No reliance on other forms of transport. Campervans can be one of the best ways to get around if you’re planning a longer trip across a country. This is because you don’t have any reliance on other forms of transport, for example trains or aeroplanes. Being a bit delayed isn’t a problem and won’t cause you to miss connections, the worst that can happen is that you are a bit delayed in terms of your arrival at a campsite, however most campsite owners are very understanding if they are warned in advance.
